We Asked AI to Predict the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup: How Does it Look So Far?

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is well underway, and there have been plenty of talking points already throughout the opening games. Inter Miami managed to surprisingly make it through Group A, becoming the only representative of the hosting United States to do so. Inter Milan, meanwhile, left it late, but they scored two late goals to secure a 2-0 win against River Plate and progress to the knockout round at the Argentinian side's expense.
Despite a shock loss to Botafogo in their second game, it’s European champions PSG that online gambling websites make the favorites to leave MetLife Stadium next month with the title. Following their 4-0 drubbing of Atletico Madrid in their tournament opener, the latest odds from Bovada's gambling website now make the Parisians a 3/1 favorite to secure the title. But what does the cutting-edge AI technology from the popular ChatGPT think will happen?
Well, we asked OpenAI's revolutionary app to predict every single game at this summer's Club World Cup, and here were the most headline-worthy talking points.
Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan Eliminated in the Group Stage
Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan are two of European football's biggest powers. Diego Simeone's Los Rojiblancos managed to defeat the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain last season in an impressive campaign that ultimately fell flat toward the end. The Nerazzurri, meanwhile, looked to be on for a famous treble, before missing out on the Scudetto to Napoli, the Coppa Italia to rivals AC Milan, and the Champions League to the aforementioned Parisians.
And let’s face it, the AI’s predictions weren’t too far away from perfection. Atleti were thumped 4-0 by PSG in their opener, while Inter slipped to a disappointing 1-1 draw against Mexican champions Monterrey. For both teams, we predicted that things looked set to get much worse, and they very nearly did.
The AI predicted that while Inter would beat Urawa Red Diamonds 2-0, they would lose to River Plate in their final group game, leaving them on four points. That very nearly came to fruition, but the Nerazzurri struck late to knock off the Argentinians and progress.
Atletico, meanwhile, weren’t to be so lucky. While they did indeed beat Botafogo in their final group game, the Spanish outfit was still eliminated after their thumping defeat to PSG, with the Brazilian outfit progressing as group runners-up.
Mamelodi Sundowns, Flamengo, and Palmeiras Top Their Groups
Mamelodi Sundowns have ruled over South African football with an iron fist in recent years, and they got their Club World Cup campaign off to a perfect start with a 1-0 victory over Korean outfit Ulsan HD. The AI predicted that things could get even better, tipping a 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund and a 2-1 win over Fluminense, enough to shockingly secure their spot at the top of Group F.
Unfortunately, things didn’t quite work out that way. The South African champions lost a seven-goal thriller to Dortmund in their second game before a goalless draw against the Brazilians in their final game saw them narrowly miss out on a spot in the last 16. But for Flamengo and Palmeiras, however, the AI’s prediction was bang on the money.
Flamengo began their campaign with a resounding 2-0 win against Esperance, and they were predicted to go on to upset two-time European Champions Chelsea to top Group D. Ultimately, they did exactly that, upsetting the English outfit 3-1 to surprisingly top the group. Palmeiras also lived up to expectations, coming back from 2-0 down in their final group game to top group A, just as our AI predicted.
Monterrey Reach the Quarterfinals
Our AI suggested that River Plate and Monterrey, in that order, will progress from Group E. Unfortunately, the former of that duo couldn’t live up to the billing, but the latter still has the chance to do exactly that.
Sergio Ramos' Mexican giants are being roared on by plenty of traveling support, and they are predicted to win their Round of 16 contest. Our AI had them facing off with the shock group toppers from South Africa and progressing to the quarterfinals with a 2-1 win. Instead of Mamelodi, though, it will be an underwhelming Borussia Dortmund they play, and that’s a clash that Monterrey certainly will feel they have a very real chance of winning.
Manchester City Reign Supreme
When all is said and done, our AI predicts that Manchester City will meet Real Madrid at MetLife Stadium in the showpiece, a final that is certainly predictable. Unlike recent clashes between the two giants of the European game, Pep Guardiola's Blues will come out on top. According to the predictor, City will run out 2-1 victors in the Big Apple, emerging with the FIFA Club World Cup trophy and an almighty cheque that the triumph will bring with it.
